Workshops are held at St George’s.
Ange Hardy and Lukas Drinkwater – Songwriting
Ange Hardy is an incredibly prolific songwriter. She only emerged on the folk scene in 2013 yet her latest release “By The Tides”, co-written with her duo partner Lukas Drinkwater, is her 60th self-penned studio song (and that total doesn’t include the rest of the 14-track album they are currently in the process of recording for release later this year).
In this 45-minute workshop Ange and Lukas will discuss the writing process behind some of their songs, including practical tips and advice on using online resources. They will discuss different approaches used when starting work on a new song, and talk about the interview question they get asked the most: “which comes first, the melody or the lyrics?”.
They will also look at song structures and inspirations, instrument choices, and start workshop attendees on the path of writing a new song together.
Meet the artist: Fleetwood Cave
Marion Fleetwood and Gregg Cave of TRADarrr
Marion and Gregg met through new folk rock ‘supergroup’ TRADarrr. Both are well known and seasoned performers on the folk scene, having played between them folk clubs and festivals across the UK, Europe and beyond including gigs as diverse as a house concert in Holland, Cropredy Festival and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
They have since formed a new duo to showcase their own writing and new settings of traditional lyrics. Join them to hear some new takes on traditional songs and some new material and find out more about the collaborative writing and performance process, the joys and frustrations of gig booking, admin, working with promoters and venues and social media. Expect observations and anecdotes and come with questions!
